GUILD LIBRARIES Business Skills Wire Skills Exhibiting Links & Resources Other Wire Arts

                 Guild Libraries
One of the major, long-term projects for the guild is to collect information pertinent to wire art jewelry in a comprehensive library. We want to capture as much information as possible in this consolidated space that is member owned and can not disappear as various real-life things happen (businesses quit, people change focus or pass on, etc). Perhaps over time we'll have an actual lending library where people can donate old books on wire, so they don't get lost.

The guild is supported by members dues. For now, it has been decided that access to these articles will be restricted to members. However, a general guild membership is very reasonably priced and can be thought of as a magazine subscription to some extent.

Please Remember - The articles posted here are for the private use of our members.
The authors that have generously shared their knowledge and time to write the articles
retain ownership.
  • Use the tutorials to learn new techinques.
  • Apply the techniques you have learned to your own new and original designs.
  • Teach techniques you have mastered, BUT write your own original teaching text and take your own original images to illustrate the text.
  • Do not share or use these articles or tutorials for teaching purposes, especially in "for profit" settings, without permission from and/or payment to the author.

You do not have to be a member to contribute articles however!!! If you are a wire artist, this is your library to help build, even if you do not have current access to it. Pretty much all wire jewelry artists have had help from someone as they got started. PAY IT FORWARD!! Whether you are doing it to improve the general quality of wire art jewelry or to help new artists, for the pure love of the art or just to get out of answering questions by having a spot to refer new people to, it is all beneficial to each of us.

The business skills and wire skills libraries started with proposed outlines. Items on the outlines with nothing behind them yet are gray'd out. It will obviously take a while for us to write articles and populate all of the areas on the proposed outlines. If you see a topic you can write an article for, please do! If we are missing topics on the outline, let us know. As articles become available, links will be added.

The indexes are available for public review, but you will need to be logged in to access any of the articles from the index.

NOTE: in the wire skills library, we are aware that some of the tutorials do not show the level of execution (ie: workmanship) that we would like to see. We have decided to post all tutorials received for now, as inspiration can come from all sources. At some point in the future, we will go through and cull out some of the duplicate information, make decisons about levels of execution, look for the holes that still need filling, etc.

  • Tutorial Vendors - if you write tutorials for sale, please consider donating some to the library. You will receive credit and a link to your site. People that like your tutorial will be drawn to your site for more.

  • Teachers - if you write tutorials for your own teaching use, please consider dontating some to the library. While some people learn from tutorials, many more people want hands on instruction. Make sure you list your services in the "Finding Instructors" section of the guild's bb.

  • Artists - consider writing a tutorial to fill in a blank space on our proposed outline! You learn from the process of writing tutorials - not only getting more precise on your technique as you try to explain it to someone else, but also as you learn to take detailed pictures and crop them.

  • Business People - consider contributing articles about business aspects of selling art jewelry.

  • PAST WORKS - if you have the copyright to an "out of print" book or other resource, if you have a tutorial you do not sell anymore, if you have a website you are taking offline, etc - please consider granting the guild the right to "re-publish" the work as part of these libraries.
Benefits of Posting On-Line (as opposed to print).
  • No space constraints - use as many images or as much text as is required to convey your message.
  • Ability to update your article!! Times change, methods change, tools change, and you learn as you continue to do things. If you need to update or append an article, just let us know.
  • Kind to the trees. Kind to land fills. No need to store stuff.

Please send your submissions to submissions at WireJewelryArtists.org
(substitute @ for at).
  • Submissions by email - you can just copy the text into an email, indicating which text goes with which image, or you can send a word document. We need the images attached as individual files in .jpg or .gif format. Please do not send .pdf's.

  • Submissions by mail - if you have a paper document and can grant us the right to put it on the website, send us an email. We will get an address for you of a volunteer that is willing to scan the document into a form that can be put on the website. Please let us know if you would like the original back or are donating it to the guild towards a future lending library.
